Description

As an architect by training, passionate about the city and its evolution, and having lived here for several years, I invite you to take a fresh look at the city of Marseille. Through the writings of researchers, sociologists, historians, novelists, and postcards photographed at different times, we'll build bridges between writing and image for a few hours to observe the evolution of the Phocaean city together. As we walk through the city, each stop gives us a chance to read a text and check out a photo I've picked out. Belvedere comes from the Italian word Bello da vedere, which literally means 'beautiful to see.' This word now means a promontory that offers us a great view, so I invite you to discover Marseille through different Belvederes. I also suggest looking for the different clues that help us understand the city's evolution through the topography, architectural details, and the landscape around us. Detailed route: - Old Port/La Canebière - Old Port - City Hall - Saint-Laurent Church / Fort Saint-Jean - Sainte-Marie Majeur / Old Major - La Vieille Charité / Panier neighborhood - Rue de la République - The Cour Belsunce
