Description

As an experienced art historian (MA and PhD candidate) specialised in Old Masters and 19th century European art and a love for food and wine, I commit my time to sharing stories about history, flavours, and art of the Provence with all passionate enthousiasts. The various historical places and hidden local spots will make your walk feel more than a tour - it's experiencing Marseille through the eyes of the local people that each bring their own flavours and dishes to a remarkable city. MARSEILLE is one of its kind. Founded by the Greeks, the city is the oldest of France and due to its important harbour activities, it has always welcomed people from all over the Mediterranean sea. Greeks, Italians, Corsicans, Spanish, North Africans, Lebanese, and Turkish jews have established themselves throughout history. With this tour I hope to show you how each of them, belonging to the Mediterranean, have influenced each other's language and cuisine. On this food tour you will explore the vibrant districts of the historic centre such as le Vieux Port, Noailles and Le Panier, taste typical food and beverages, and come to understand the city’s multinational character through its historical and current trading activities. Local produce such as the well-known pastis, olives, pastries and other tasty specialities will be savoured along the way.
